One woman’s broken watch becomes another woman’s necklace through the eyes and hands of Carol Baney.
She creates her steampunk trash-to-treasure jewelry from an array of bits and baubles gathered from flea markets and auctions.
“Vintage watch gears or salvaged escutcheons are carefully manufactured into objects”, she says. “By refashioning these into jewelry, I extend their useful lives and share their innate beauty with new audiences.”
Plus, she says, “I like playing in the piles of parts. You need a heap just to find what you’re going to put in one little spot.”
Baney’s artistic side business complements her day job as director of operations for the Central Pennsylvania Festival of the Arts, which takes place annually in Baney's hometown, State College, PA.
